Re: No Previewing On Equalizer
There was a problem with this in 1.3.5, but the problem has been cleared in the latest development code , meaning that if you compile Audacity yourself from that code, or use one of our nightly development builds, these issues should not occur. It should no longer be a problem when Audacity 1.3.6 be...

Re: microphone suggestions?
I presume this is for recording onto a computer? A laptop PC? PC's generally have low quality microphone inputs, so with a conventional microphone the sound quality will not be very good unless you upgrade your sound card, which will immediately push you over your budget. I would not recommend a lar...

Re: filter imports, sample tracks & conversions
I think it's a mistake to compare the two programs. They are both audio programs, but other than that are quite different. If you start with the idea that Audacity is a free alternative to FruityLoops you will be frustrated and disappointed when Audacity can not do something that you could do in FL,...

Re: Remove harsh frequencies from recorded sound
(1) ... I guess there is no way of cleaning up the sound file in stages - CSI-style - to isolate the frequencies that are euphonic from the surrounding cacophony? You can, but the returns for the extra effort will probably be negligible. Let's have a look at the issue: We have distortion that is pr...

Make sure that the sound card is connected, switched on and recognised by Windows, then open Audacity. Look in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" and "Edit > Preferences > Quality" - What is selected for the Recording device? What is the default sample rate and bit depth set at? Ho...

Re: Question About Exporting
When you said compatible with other applications, are you referring to media players Yes. And any other application that uses audio files (video editors, audio editors, Digital Audio Workstations, CD burners, audio encoders.... Also hardware). Also, if an audio file is not compatible (or not very c...

Re: Splitting file by specifying time?
Do I need to wear a paper mache suit & be prepared to dive under a running shower? That shouldn't be necessary :D There are a few issues with Audacity 1.3.x, (it's beta), but they do not affect all machines. The only problems that I have are: If I cancel an effect after previewing it Audacity w...

Re: Time?
Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3.4 or above. Also, working on an external drive can slow things down a lot. Try working on the internal drive, then after a successful export, copy or move the files to the external drive. Avoid having other cpu or disk intensive processes running at the same time (such ...
