Re: streaming audio to disk

A standard CD always uses "16 bit 44.1kHz (Microsoft PCM) WAV" format. Some CD players will play other formats (such as MP3's) but this is not standard. Some audio players (such as WinAmp or VLC) allow direct to disk writing of streaming audio. An audio CD capacity is a little over an hour.

Re: Audacity continuously crashes

How much free disk space do you have on your C: drive?
How long are the tracks that you are recording?
How much free disk space after you have recorded track number 3?

Re: Reducing Background noise during a speech.

Unfortunately there's not much you can do about it. This is why recording studios go to very great lengths to soundproof their recording booths. The "Noise Removal" effect is designed to remove low level continuous noise such as tape hiss - it does not work on intermittent noises such as p...

Re: over modulation with mp3

What exactly do you mean by "over modulated"? Can you upload a short clip to the internet and post a link.
How does it sound if you export as WAV?

Re: new mic equip. isn't working

but the mic input on the audacity toolbar is eternally stuck on zero. when i move it up, my computer mutes itself If you mean the recording level slider in Audacity, then this most likely will not work with your set-up. However this should not prevent you from making successful recordings - just ig...

Re: Sample live recording

I've only listened to your first clip (the FLAC file) and I would say that the recording quality is very good. The only thing that I might suggest is that you could narrow the stereo field a little. I guess there was a lot of stereo separation in the live show from where your microphones were set up...

Re: Tape Player Headphone Output to Line In Plays One Channe

If you "Import" a stereo file into Audacity, does it play correctly? In Audacity, if you go to "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" do you have the number of channels set to "2 (stereo)" ? I have also tried headphones in the tape player, so it is definitely not the tape pla...

Re: USB recording = good enough; everything else, different!

Get a good quality, voice specialist (eg podcasting) USB condensor mic, sit it between us, and then I guess that would solve the Audacity 1 USB mic restriction. So I'll try that and see how it goes: that way it doesn't matter about the quality of the laptop / soundcard / settings, because these mic...
