What's the peak level like? Does it push up against the top/bottom of the track? If it does, then you've recorded it too loud. The ClipFix plugin may help if you are lucky, but it depends on how bad the distortion is.

That's strange - I've used Audacity v.1.3.3, v.1.3.4 and v.1.3.5 on Windows XP with a SoundBlaster Live! 1024 without any problem ! I'm somewhat confounded that it doesn't work for you. Are you sure that you removed both the registry settings and the configuration file completely before trying v.1.3...
