Re: Input Drop down Menu
Even if your sound card does not support recording from CD, you can still get the music from the CD by digitally extracting it (and with better sound quality). 2 free programs that allow you to do it are: C-Dex EAC (Exact Audio Copy) - slower, but with good unscratched CD's produces perfect copies (...

Re: Audacity karaoke question
I don't see the relevance to this question, If you can pan the karaoke to the left, and at the same time pan the microphone to the right, then you can set the Windows Mixer to record from "Stereo Mix", then record in Audacity as 2 channel (stereo). This will produce a stereo recording wit...

Go into the Audacity preferences (Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O) and select "Microsoft Sound Mapper" for both input and output.

Re: Best Setup For Recording Cassettes
There's a tutorial on the Audacity wiki about recording cassettes and will probably answer most of your questions. http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Transferring_tapes_and_records_to_computer_or_CD Most cassette players use RCA connectors rather than 1/8" jack, but finding a suitable...

Re: Possible to Enter a New Predefined Equalization Curve?
In Audacity 1.3.x you can save your settings in the Equalizer, giving each of them a name, just like the existing presets. If you feel adventurous, you can even open the "EQCurves.xml" file in a text editor and create curves manually for new presets. If we have a look at an example of part...

Re: Does Audacity convert MP3 to WAV before editing?
If I use Audacity just for splitting, will I avoid the decoding, recoding process? No. Audacity always works on uncompressed audio. mp3DirectCut will split mp3s without decoding - I'm not sure how much more that mp3DirectCut can do, but I hear it is good and quick for splitting MP3's with no change...

Re: error message not capable to op destination file for wri
The thing is that I have plenty of hard disk space and it only happens occasionally. Are you aware that Audacity does not clear out it's "undo" files (temporary data files) until it closes? If for example you record several albums in a row, and let's say that you record, normalise, remove...
