Have a look for "Ring Modulator with two inputs" by Steve Harris.
Set the slider to "1" for Amplitude Modulation.

I;m unsure why you are getting this problem, it seems quite unexpected. However, a possible workaround (and this works better than copy and pasting anyway. Select a track (or part) and press Ctrl+D to duplicate it.

I've not found it necessary to uninstall JACK, just necessary to ensure that it is not running when I use Audacity. I guess if you do not need JACK for anything else, then removing it completely is a straightforward option.

I use "Time Shift" tool to move channel 1 audio and try my best to sync it with channel 2 audio. Yes, so that the "channel 1 audio" that has leaked over to channel 2 plays as closely as possible on both tracks - when you get it right there should be little if any echo effect not...

The mp3 that you tried there was a 128kbps CBR (Constant Bit Rate) MP3.

Not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean that you are getting a "click"sound at the edit point? If so, try and make your edit points happen at "zero crossing points"

In addition to WC's comments - check that your sound card does not have any "sound effect enhancements" (sometimes called "environmental audio") enabled.
