Re: 2 finger trackpad mouse gesture functionality
Hi ghee, I wasn't meaning to get your hopes up, but the ability to map mouse/trackpad gestures to keyboard short cuts is something that I have seen on a laptop PC, and if such a thing exists for Macs, then it may offer a possible solution for you. I'm not a Mac user, but I also spotted this, which m...

Re: track sync aka he,p with my fumble-fingers
I got a bit lost on what you were doing with which audio clip, but a couple of little editing tips that you may find useful (these apply to Audacity 1.3.x). Selecting the same point on multiple tracks. Click on a track to position the cursor/play position, then use the down (or up) cursor to move to...

Re: Audacity 1.3.5 and 1.3.6 Flatlining
USB device isn't installed as such. I see, it uses generic Windows drivers. In 99% of the times when Audacity flat-lines, it is because it is simply not receiving any audio. This is either because Audacity is not set in its Preferences (Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O tab) to the correct audio ...

Re: tempo change gradually
Audacity does not have a way to gradually change tempo (and not pitch), but having tried that in other audio programs, it tends to sound rather unnatural anyway. The way to achieve the effect is a little more time consuming, but produces pretty good results. I'll use some convenient times and tempos...

Re: 1st stereo track recorded (duped) onto new 2nd track
You have probably got your computer sound system set to record "Stereo Mix" rather than set to record "Line In". Look in your sound cards control panel/mixer to change the source of the recording. If you get stuck, look in the Audacity wiki (link at top of page) for "Vista&q...

Re: Wondering about specific effects
You can achieve some underwater type sounds using a "chorus" effect on fairly extreme settings - you may also want to use the Equalizer effect in conjunction with this. There are several chorus and distortion effects available as LADSPA and Nyquist plug-ins. Look in the Audacity wiki (link...

Re: New track lagging behind.
Audacity does not support ASIO due to licensing restrictions, however to get round this, Audacity implements "latency correction". In Audacity 1.2.6, this is fully automatic, and usually does a pretty reasonable job, though some sound cards seem to work a lot better at some sample rates th...

Re: No Gain Control on Microphone Input
If the slider in Audacity has no effect, you need to look to the computer sound system controls. The recording and playback level controls are just short cuts to the sound system controls, but depending on the hardware and the sound card drivers, they are not always able to have any effect, in which...

Re: Connecting turntable to soundcard issue
do I need to use a ground loop isolator between the turntable and the soundcard input, in order to minimize any noise? That all depends on if you get noise without it. With my turntable, I need a wire connecting the Earths between the turntable and the phono pre-amp (you need to use a phono pre-amp...

Before we start asking "why" - does that fix the issue?
