Re: Audacity & Vista: stereo-mix gone

The dropdown menu with recording devices is still grayed out in Audacity Yes it will be. See "Mixer Toolbar selector is always greyed out on Vista" here: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewforum.php?f=12 Recording from Skype or other voip programs is rather tricky because the do some dirty...

Re: should project rate (44100) for cd be same as the track

There will be a marked reduction in fidelity with 16000 Hz recording. The highest frequencies that can be recorded in any shape or form are at half of the sampling frequency, which for a sample rate of 16kHz will be 8kHz. High frequency hearing is one of those things that tends to go with age, parti...

Re: Removing Curse Words

how to remove ... any word selected... from a track without using reverse, silence, or etc.? There are several ways that you could do it, but I think all will require manually locating the words in the audio track, then "treating" the tack in some way. The simplest method would be to use ...

Re: Making voice recording sound awesome

Any chance you have (or would consider writing) a beginner's guide to using some of the more advanced techniques within Audacity? There's quite a few good tutorials in the Audacity wiki (link at top of page), and also many other on the internet including some video tutorials. Unfortunately not all ...

Re: Is there a way to set markers for a select?

You can use the zoom buttons (they have pictures of magnifying glasses) for zooming. Ctrl+B to set labels for selected region (then enter text to name the label). Don't know if you have these on a Mac, but "Home" button goes to start of a track and "End" key goes to the end of a ...

Re: 1.2.6 noise removal superior to 1.3.6 ??

"Generally" the noise reduction in 1.3.x is better than in 1.2.6 - that is to say, if you are removing low level noise such as tape hiss, and make a good noise profile, and use optimum setting, then with the majority of source material, subjectively better results can be obtained using the...

Re: error message

It's almost certainly not an Audacity problem, but one of the many variations of the classic USB problems. Sometimes using a different USB port can help. Also avoid using any other programs at the same time as Audacity, especially anything that is CPU intensive. It is usually best to disable Windows...

Re: Please help eliminate applause

Is it such an unusual need? In future editions of Audacity, wouldn't there be a way to integrate a "wizard" that does it all, from removing applause, to creating the reverb effect? The trouble with that is that people would expect it to work, but in practice it depends very much on the au...

Re: OGG to mp3 files?

Audacity 1.3.x supports FLAC files - I'm not sure about 1.2.6

The latest version of Audacity (1.3.6) should support many other file types as well, though I think that feature is still quite experimental and I have not got round to testing it yet.
