When the record finishes playing, you should see the recording meters drop to a low level, and the waveform become almost a flat line. That should not happen while the record is still playing, unless you have run out of disk space or some other fault.

That feature is available in Audacity 1.3.6

Put the mp3 on a separate track.
All tracks will be mixed together when you Export your finished audio.

A bit of voice "acting" can go a long way. The voice of a skylark is higher than that of a crow, but no amount of pitch shifting alone will make a crow sound like a skylark.
