Re: Overlapping recordings
I use a Zoom H2 portable recorder, then use Audacity to edit the recordings. It is a very portable device, about the size and shape of an electric razor. The recording quality is very good, it is very convenient to use, and very reasonably priced. Perhaps this would fit into your set-up.

Re: Weird Breathing Noise Coming Through My Speakers
I used my headset, propped up on my knee as a mic That is far from ideal. You will be struggling to get good quality recordings without a better microphone set up. Was the phone causing the breathing reaction? That's possible. Just about any electrical equipment can cause interference, but cordless...

Re: record time question
What is the max record time allowed on Audacity? Not limited by Audacity. You must have enough available disk space. Some users on 32 bit machines have reported problems with recordings longer than about 12 hours, but this seems to be due to the computer being unable to correctly address files that...

Re: playing over a recording
"Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O"
Select "play other tracks while recording new one"
Do not select "software playthrough"
External sound cards do not always support this option.

Re: Can anyone recommend a USB mixer without hissing or pops
is it true that you can designate different tracks to record only certain inputs from the mixer? What are the limiations to this with audacity, and is it only supported for certain hardware? You can record multiple channels simultaneously each on their own track with appropriate hardware. For Audac...

Re: plugin question
but then again it would make for a cool Nyquist plug! :) It certainly would, but unfortunately due to the way that Nyquist is implemented in Audacity I don't think it would be possible. As far as I know, there is no way for Nyquist to create new tracks, it can only return audio to the track that is...

Re: Making voice recording sound awesome
I used the High Pass Filter in 1.3.5 on its default settings (3db Rolloff, Filter Quality .6, Cutoff Frequency 1001Hz) and it made everything sound thin, attenuated, with none of the punch I want from the voice. Use a steeper filter and a lower cut-off frequency, perhaps 12dB per octave at 40Hz. Th...
