I brought the file back into Audacity, and it still seemed to play fine. The file probably is fine. There are many different flavours of MP3. Diferent compression settings, mono, stereo, VBR, CBR, ABR. Not all players can play all types of MP3 correctly. If you are having problems with the Audacity...

Oh, well that's a lot more than a few MB's. Don't get your hopes up too much though. Yes there is a slim chance that you could recover the project, it has been done before, but not very often. Also, try Audacity 1.3.6 , it has better hardware support than the old 1.2.6 version.
