Re: seperate music from the singing ???

It is sometimes possible to remove, or reduce the lead vocal from a stereo recording with Audacity. It is not possible to remove the music and leave the lead vocal. http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Vocal_Removal There are a couple of other programs that claim to be able to isolate other ...

Re: Why is it adding blank/dead space at end of file?

Perhaps Windows Media Player is adding the extra.
Have you tried playing in another audio player?
There is an excellent free audio player for Windows called FooBar2000. It will play just about every audio format (apart from Real Audio) and can also be used as a format converter.

Re: Audacity MP3s playback at double speed

Some MP3 players do not play MP3's correctly if they are not at particular sample rates.
Set your "Project Rate" (box at bottom left of the Audacity screen) to 44100Hz before you Export.

Re: Using Spitfish De-esser

Audacity uses the "VST Bridge" to support VST plug-ins. Unfortunately, due to licensing restrictions, the Graphical User Interface (GUI) is not supported. This is why you just have a bunch of sliders instead of a pretty and intuitive GUI. To use the Spitfish De-esser you may need to find a...

Re: Remove high-pitched noises

As Koz says - keep to WAV format for all your processing. You can Export an MP3 version if you wish at the end, but it's best to also keep a high quality WAV version (16 bit 44100Hz) as a backup/archive copy. The WAV version can be burned to CD if you need to free up disk space. Also: The original m...

Re: subjective question: how much clipping acceptable?

I see that it's really just one peak getting chopped every second or two. Is it actually being "chopped" or is it just "touching" 0dB (plus or minus 1 on the vertical scale). If a recording has been normalized to 0dB then you will get a red "clipping" indicator at the ...

Re: How do you use Plug Ins?

VST plug-ins can be problematic - they rely on compatibility with the VST Bridge, and this can easily be messed up if there are any incompatible VST plug-ins anywhere on your computer. Also, due to licensing restrictions, the graphical interfaces are not supported, which makes many of them difficult...

When I try to log in I am denied access Do you get an error message? (has your IP address been banned or something like that?) Would it be illegal to have it sent to me by a fellow DAW'er? Probably. In order to get better performance from Audacity on my laptop running XP I registred at Steinberg fo...

So "Using This Forum" would be what we're doing now? Yes, and: "I like the forum smilies, but I don't like the font..." "Could not log onto this forum for the last 3 days..." "How do I post attachments..." and so on. Would you keep "Adding Features"...
