Re: Question about MultiTrck recrding of sounds directly fro

The "stereo mix" method for recording software synths is really just a "workaround" for overcoming the limitations of Windows WDM drivers. You are now running into the limitations of that workaround. The only option is to use muli-client audio drivers, which in the case of Window...

Re: VST Enabler

You most likely have an incompatible VST plug-in installed on your computer. My recommendation is to not use VST with Audacity, and to stick with LADSPA and Nyquist plug-ins (which are free and plentiful). If you really want VST (note that the VST graphical interfaces are not supported due to licens...

Re: Your Favorite 1.3...

On Windows XP I found 1.3.4 to be the most stable and problem free, though I also like 1.3.6, and use it regularly in spite of it having a few bugs. ASAIK 1.3.7 is currently an alpha version, so it's not really a fair comparison when looking at things like stability and absence of bugs. 1.3.6 looks ...

Re: buying a headset

The recording quality of headset microphones tends to not be very good unless you spend a lot of money. A headset may be good enough to get you started, in which case it is not particularly important what sort you use. Personally I would go for a conventional type (plugs into the microphone and head...

Re: Help please.

You can set the number of recording channels (1 - mono, 2 - stereo) in Audacity Preferences. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences Look on the "Audio I/O" tab. Since you had problems with your previous install, it is probably a good idea to completely reset Audacity preferences. You d...

Re: When will AC3->MP3 convert be available?

Limited AC3 support should now be available through FFmpeg, which is supported in Audacity 1.3.6 I think this is still quite experimental. There are licensing issues with the AC3 format, so full suport may not be possible within open source software. An alternative is to use the free SUPER converter...

I mean on the IO2 itself - do you have jumping lights showing on the unit when you speak into the microphone?

Re: Delay in headphones

I tried checking the box "Play new track while recording it" but I get the delay that throws me off I think you will find that "software playthrough" causes the delay. Software playthrough should be off (not selected) "Play other tracks while recording new one" should ...

Re: Still hearing clicks... and time shift

you could use a very rapid cross-fade. Yes indeed you can, but using the "Repair" effect gives just as good results, and (in Audacity) is quicker and more simple to achieve. There is a feature request that could make the cross-fading option (using envelopes) a more practical alternative (...

So what version of Ubuntu are you on now?
I'm on Ubuntu 8.10 and Audacity can be installed through synaptic without JACK. Intrepid has Audacity 1.3.5, and in the absence of JACK it seems to work fine.
