Re: help with ringtones
The problem is that the cell-phone people want you to spend money, so they deliberately miss out important details from the manual to "encourage" you to spend. Your best bet is to look for user forums for your type of cell-phone and find out if anyone else has managed to get it to work. Th...

Re: Even the basics confound me! I currently
The clip that I sampled the hiss from was one audio file from many that make up a concert. None of the other audio files have the "pure hiss" needed to Noise Profile and remove. Is there a way I can apply this "profiled hiss" from this file to denoise the other files. The easies...

Re: Vocal Track Playback NOT IN TIME
Try using a different sample rate (Edit > Preferences > Quality). Some sound cards will play up with some sample rates - the recommended sample rates are 44100Hz and 48000Hz - try both. If that does not help, it could be that your sound card has developed a fault. Another possibility is that an upda...

Re: M4A file editing - insert gap at start of track and save
Assuming that you have successfully separated the AAC audio stream and managed to import it into Audacity, then yes you can trim a bit off the beginning and export it. I'm still using Audacity 1.3.5 so I don't know how well AAC is supported, but regarding your other question, Audacity always works o...

Re: Extracting Vocals Using Instrumental (AGAIN!!!)
I successfully removed the vocals from a track using the method outlined here: <http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Vocal_Removal> (vocals in middle). Then I tried to combine this new instrumental track with the original song to isolate the vocal, but so far, it hasn't worked. No, it won't...

Also, I have an MP3 encoding question. Is variable bit rate more efficient (smaller file size) than fixed bit rate? The "preset" options have been designed to give optimum quality at various compression levels. They are all VBR except for the "Insane" preset which is 320kbps CBR...

Re: Recording issue in audacity
Have tried all settings options but cannot hear anything through inbuilt speakers on PC.... Level meters on Audacity show varying input level activity from USB turntable and output also when playing vinyl, so must have seleceted right settings options on I/O choices. You have set the input (recordi...

Re: ANDing / XORing two almost identical tracks
And through all that, what you get at the end is a patched sound track, not the clear one you would have by fixing your machine. Koz Yes you are absolutely right Koz, it's much better to avoid clipping in the first place than to try and repair it after the damage has been done. The same can be said...

Re: recording songs
To get a normal audio file that you can burn to CD, use the "Export" function and export it as a "16 bit 44.1kHz stereo WAV" file.

New features in Audacity 1.3 Beta version Audacity 1.3 Beta is our new, not quite finished, development version which will be the basis of our next "stable" version. * Contains dozens of new, exciting features. Very occasionally, these might need final polishing or not be retained in later...
