Pre-amps seem to be one of Behringers strengths (and price), so I'd not be at all surprised if you found the performance of the PP400 to be far better than it should be for the price.
Is the AT under warranty?
Can you be bothered?

Re: MP3 Bitrate help?
Does Audacity 1.3.6 still have that MP3 export bug? I think it does, in which case, use Audacity 1.3.4 If you are on XP or Vista, get the "Unicode" "exe" (1.3.4) from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=6235&package_id=50145&release_id=553991 In co...

Re: Audacity and Dell Inspiron 530 s. Any good experience?
Installing Audacity should not be a problem, but configuring Vista for recording may provide a few headaches. Fortunately there is a guide in the Audacity documentation: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_OS Oh, nearly forgot... Use Audacity 1.3.6 (or later when available) ra...

Re: Recording LPs/Normalizing Audio
It's all down to your sound card and the sound card drivers. Use the Windows Mixer, or your sound cards control panel/mixer to set the recording and playback levels.
(I'm assuming that you are not recording from a USB device).

Re: Says it's recording "What U Hear" but is just recording
Don't believe the drop down box in Audacity - Audacity will try to be friends with your sound card driver, but sometimes they just won't play. Assuming that you are on Windows (and using a "Sound Blaster card?), select "Microsoft Sound Mapper" as the recording and playback devices (Ed...

Re: Weird track display
Your statement about USB made me go back to the weak link... It WAS the coupler! Not necessarily, in fact I suspect probably not the coupler. I had bought a Behringer phono preamp to use with an older turntable, so I swapped that in and took out the coupler. Switch the AT to phono instead of preamp...

Re: clipping at +/- 0.5
It all depends on where the clipping occurs. Audacity will clip at +/- 1.0, but your microphone, pre-amp, sound card, (whatever is in your signal chain) will have its own clip level. Try fiddling with the levels at each point in the signal chain and see if you can find where the clipping is occuring...

Re: Audio playback slow and skipping
But why is the playback fixed when I turn on "software playthrough"? With hardware playthrough, the computer is trying to record and playback in real time. When you use software playthrough your computer is only having to record in real time and can be a bit more relaxed about the playbac...

Re: Bug Report -- VISTA
There must be some bad error handling code in Audacity that causes the whole program to crash when the preferences are accessed in this case. I think the problem only appeared last April when Vista SP1 came out. To my mind it's another case of Microsoft saying "jump" and the rest of the c...
