Re: Fixing variable sound level (DJ Mix)
"look ahead" has slightly different meanings depending on whether you are talking about compressors or limiters. The collective term for all of these kind of effects is "dynamic processor", in that they adjust (process) the dynamics (changes in amplitude/volume) in one way or ano...

Re: Cue import/export
You don't use cue sheets? :o No, I just use K3B or Nero and let the computer do all the work ;) Some time ago I spoke with Andrew about the possibility of collaborating on a Nyquist plug-in for exporting cue sheets from Audacity. At the time, he was interested, but rather too busy. Right now, I'm r...

Re: MP3 Bitrate help?
There are quite a few free standalone MP3 encoders that can make a much quicker job of converting WAV files to MP3 - my personal favourite for Windows is LamdropXPd http://rarewares.org/mp3-lamedrop.php However, an advantage of using Audacity is that it also provides access to a number of other tool...

Re: Not recording
I have no idea how to download it into Synaptic. You don't have to do any special sort of download - just download it in the normal way. Click on the link (either "amd64" if you have AMD64 PC, or else "i386") and that will take you to the appropriate download page. Click on any ...

My guess is that either the music has DRM protection, or it is not a valid audio file.

Re: Vista Playback Default Format and Audacity
real-time SRC is only used if the track sample rate is different than the project rate. Yes that's correct. If a track is at a different sample rate to the project rate, then Audacity will convert it to the project rate on the fly and send the data at the project rate to the sound card driver, whic...

Re: Vista Playback Default Format and Audacity
You should have the real-time SRC Fast Sinc Interpolation and Dither = none. I would recommend setting High Quality SRC, to High Quality / Shaped. If you still have the problem, then I think the issue is probably with your sound card or sound card drivers. Have you had a look to see if there any upd...
