Amplify or normalize
If if open a mp3 from my computer that I have recorded off of the internet and may not have set the input audio correctly. After I have opened the file and I want to correct the sound to the right level, not too loud or soft, do I use the amplify to lower or increase the sound or should I use the n...

Re: Fixing variable sound level (DJ Mix)
I gave the compressed version another listen in the car and noticed that during parts of the song where the bassline drops out all of the high end gets really loud (ambient synths etc). I think what you need is a multi-band compressor. I don't know of one for Audacity, but it's easy enough to repro...

Re: Computer crashed while Audacity was running
It would be nice to see less need for a recovery tool, and recent versions of 1.3.x have made great advances in that direction.ttyR2 wrote:it would really be nice to see a more robust recovering function built in to Audacity.

Re: Audacity & the Blue Screen of Death
Of course this raises a whole slew of questions, mainly: Why in 1.3.6 and not 1.2.6? Audacity 1.3.x, as you know, is the beta (development) version of Audacity and is subject to many changes and revisions on the path to releasing the new (1.4) stable version. These changes may sometimes introduce n...

Re: Help with iteration functions in Nyquist
Really nasty cross-over distortion ! Nice one pedrodx :D If you want to make it handle stereo tracks, you can define it as a function, then call the function for each channel. Stereo tracks are handled as arrays, so you need to call the function like this: (vector (aref (function) 0)(aref (function)...

Re: Need help with now malfunctioning recording quality.
If it's a new computer with an on board sound card, the sound card would be my bet.
In the olden days the manufacturers used to put in $15 worth of sound card, now they've got it down to around $1.
Spending around $30 to $40 on upgrading the sound card is likely to make a world of difference.

"Blue Screen of Death" - wow, I've not seen one of those in years ;) BAD_POOL_CALL - seem to remember that usually being associated with device driver problems. Check in the Control Panel / system / Hardware (something like that) that there are no yellow question marks or big red X's in th...

Re: AU: Dynamics Processor & Multiband Compressor for Window
AU: Dynamics Processor and AU: Multiband Compressor are Apple effects and are not a part of Audacity. I doubt that Apple have ported them to Windows. However, there are various open source dynamic compressors available for Audacity. My favourites are Steve Harris's SC4, and Chris’s dynamic compresso...

Re: Voice effects for podcasts
To create a "telephone" effect. Use Audacity 1.3.6 Apply a "lowpass filter" set to 3000Hz / 12dB per octave then apply a "highpass filter" set to 300Hz / 12 dB per octave play around with the settings to customise the effect if you wish. Some open source music and sound...
