Re: Amplitude Finder?
I was wondering if there was any way to find the amplitude of a clip If you select "Amplify" from the Effects menu, it will automatically be set to the amount of amplification necessary to amplify the selected audio up to 0dB. Looking at that another way, your selected audio will be that ...

Re: Need help recording stereo music
even when I record songs in 2 channel stereo, when I put the song on my Ipod and play it though the car stereo, I can just hear sound out of the right speaker. And the music fades away to zero if I set the balance all the way to the left side. So it seems that I am still playing music in mono or 1 ...

Re: Startup folder
I presume that you mean when you use "Open" or "Import".
Upgrade to Audacity 1.3 - the default directory is automatically set to whichever directory you used last.

Re: Pause in playing after track
The problem is most likely with the CD. Either you have a long section of silence at the end of track 1, or there is a small defect on the CD that is making it difficult for the CD player to automatically move onto the next track. Check the file that track 1 came from, and if that is OK, try burning...

Re: playback sounds compressed & distorted
The problem is your sound card input. The input has either Automatic Gain Control, Noise reduction, or some other similar effect enabled. It may or may not be possible to switch that off - see your computer documentation (or just look for an icon near the system clock). It is usually possible to swi...

Re: Split recording for long recordings....
is there any way to have it spit out a WAV the entire time instead of require an export later? No, Audacity is unable to take he time out to do that - it would smash the recording while it was busy exporting. Or more importantly, can it do "hourly split" like other similar recorders do? Y...

Re: Recording audio from a video
I can't select anything from that dropdown box The "drop down box"? I bet you are still looking in Audacity for the problem/solution, but the issue is not there - the issue is with setting up the computer sound system. Audacity can sometimes talk to the sound card and tell the sound card ...

Re: Recording audio from a video
You need to set the Windows Mixer, or your sound card control panel to record from "Stereo Mix". See here for details: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Recording_audio_playing_on_the_computer If you are on Vista, also see see here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=W...

Re: Need Some Really Good Headphones
Going on my experience of modern on-board sound cards, I would expect that as soon as you plug in some decent headphones, you will immediately discover how poor the sound card is, particularly the recording input, and particularly on laptops. Any sound card that is designed for audio production is l...
