Take care to either allow the automatic download or to use the actual Audacity download link and not one of the advertisements (unless you are interested in one of the advertised products of course).

I don't know if you have found the answer yet but I just installed the ffmpeg plug in and then opened an .avi file of a musical video clip and the audio was imported instantly, no sweat! I think that will only work with Audacity 1.3.6 and later. It's the biggest pain in the ass to find the link. [ ...

It depends on what is wrong with the quality.
Can you upload a short sample somewhere on the internet (preferably in FLAC format) and post a link. Add a description of what you don't like about the quality and I'm sure you'll get some suggestions for improving it.

It doesn't show in my audio devices folder when not connected. If I've downloaded the driver shouldn't it appear in the audio devices folder even it it's not connected? No it won't show up unless you have compiled Audacity from the source code to include ASIO support. Audacity can not ship with ASI...
