Re: LP recording slow playback
I recorded the full 60 seconds in Sound Recorder and saved it as a WAV file. Playback of that WAV file was normal. Good. That shows that your computer sound system is working correctly (at least for 60 seconds). I tried increasing the speed by 8.3% as indicated by another post and that fixed the pl...

Re: Vista: Crash when I press the 'Stop-button'
Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3 - it seems to be a lot more stable on Vista than the old 1.2.6 version.
See the Audacity wiki for help with installing : http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... s_Vista_OS

Re: Recording to laptop using usb with preamp input
I have a HP laptop. I used the microphone input on my laptop to record mp3 from turntable. I am getting background noise. That's not unusual, most PC laptops have very poor quality microphone inputs. I would like to use the usb port and Audacity. You can use an external audio device with Audacity, ...

On Windows, if you are using an internal sound card;
Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O tab
turn off "software playthrough".

Re: 1.3.6. failed open WAV
i extracted from avi (VirtualDub) "wav - 86MB" file Exactly what sort of WAV file is it? Right click on the file and look in the advanced properties, where it will tell you the number of channels, bit depth, sample rate, and so on. Too large file? How much free disk space do you have on y...

Re: Audacity crashed!!!
Are you absolutely certain that all audio files that were being used in the project still exist on your computer (in the same locations)? By default, Audacity imports uncompressed files such as WAV or AIFF by reading them directly from the file. This is normal practice with media editors and both sp...

Re: Audacity 1.3.7 freezes my computer
Are you able to do anything with Audacity before it locks up?
Do you have an available recording source (sound card) on your computer? (Check in the Windows Control Panel in "Sounds and Audio Devices" to see what device Windows has selected for the default recording and playback devices).
