Re: Importing files
You have missed a step out. You should have "Exported" the recording as a WAV file from the original project (on the recording computer). Transfer the WAV file to the other PC and burn it to CD. There is a tutorial all about this. See the "Tutorials" link at top of this page.

Re: burning CD
After you have recorded into Audacity, you need to "Export" the recording as a WAV file. You will then be able to make a CD from the exported audio file. Note that many CD writing programs will not accept 32bit WAV files, they must be 16bit. See the "Tutorials" link at top of thi...

Re: Splitting 2 speakers into seperate channels from a mono
Speaker identification:... I think this will have to be manual You're probably right. Using Audacity 1.3 You can then label regions of the track (Audacity 1.2 only marks single points) By clicking on a label name, it will select the region that is defined by the label. The way that I would do the t...

We all really appreciate it when people post their solutions. You shouldn't feel foolish as it may well help other Audacity users.

Re: Exporting problems
There are a few known Export problems with some recent versions of 1.3 beta. They appear to have been fixed in the current development version, so you should be seeing a new release of Audacity very soon. (it may be called Audacity 1.3.7.1 or something like that).

Re: Transferring LP:s fails
To select the desired input in Audacity, go to the Edit menu and select "Preferences". When the Preferences window opens, look at the top of the "Audio I/O" tab and you will see two drop down boxes, one for the recording device, and one for the playback device. If your turntable ...

Re: isolating a sound
Another option is to find (or make) a midi file for the song. It won't sound as good as real instruments, but it will give the general idea. You can remove or isolate individual instruments from midi files very easily with any midi editor. (Can also be a useful tool for learning new songs as most mi...

Re: Need test files for that cause Audacity to hang
This one is seriously magic. It was created and exported as a 32-bit floating WAV file. QuickTime Pro thinks it's 16-bit and Audacity 1.3.8 opens it as 24-bit. According to VLC; 16 bit 48kHz 2 channel. Audacity 1.3.8 (Linux) agrees. I'm sure that SUPER could add a few details, but I've not got a Wi...
