It looks like your Nyquist plug-ins (the ".NY" files) have been modified.
Any idea how that happened?

Re: 2.4.2 Startup Failure on MacOS 10.13.6
Although, now that I think about it, my ~/Users folder is on the secondary drive, not the system drive. Would that have anything to do with this issue? My guess is that Audacity can't find your temp folder. The normal location is: /Users/<your username>/Library/Application Support/SessionData

Have you tried rebooting (without the "reopen applications" option)?

Re: cant hear instrumental to sing too even though everything is turned up
How are you playing the instrumental? Did you import the file into Audacity? Can you hear the instrumental if you just play (without recording)?

Re: Direct mic recording
Have you tried rebooting?
Do you also get your voice in the recording as well as the noise?
Does the mic work with any other app? (Windows 10 has a "microphone test" built in)

Re: help
The old "Equalization" effect has been replaced with "Graphic EQ" and "Filter Curve EQ".

Re: RMS Normalize plug-in error
1. "Help menu > Diagnostics > Show Log"
2. Click the "Clear" button.
3. Apply the Limiter effect.
4. If it gives an error, then there should also be some debug information printed to the Audacity log window. Copy the contents of the log to your reply.

Re: Interface laggy when editing Waves
Try reducing the number of colors in the "Compatibility" settings for Audacity.
