Re: HELP! recording from tapes to computer/cd

How to test for whether Audacity is receiving a signal. Open up Audacity. There are a pair of level meters (meter tool bar) near the top of the Audacity window http://audacityteam.org/manual/images/c/c2/Meter000.png Right click on the right hand meter (the recording level meter) and enable metering....

Re: Is this possible?

Thanks for letting us know Kat. Yes, the forum server has been a bit temperamental - sometimes hitting the "refresh" button on your browser will get you connected, but other times you need to come back later and try. (the forum is on shared hosting, and without a budget to pay for better h...

Re: Error while opening sound device......

In other words, everything is internal So you are wanting to record from "Stereo Mix". We need to look at relevant settings for the sound system, including settings that are not in Audacity. Do you know how to access your Realtek sound card control panel? (loudspeaker icon near the clock)...

Re: Need Some Really Good Headphones

The HD990 are "isolation headphones". They are designed to reduce outside noise, and so are excellent for drummers and DJ's in loud clubs, but the sound quality is nowhere near as good as the HD880 which are designed for studio monitoring. I just wish to use the external sound card for hig...

Re: MP3 Issue

It's not greyed out; it's simply not there. I've no idea why that is, it works for me. Work around for getting your radio station file: (not ideal, but ...) Can you Export from 1.3.7 as a WAV file? If you can, then you should be able to import the WAV into your older version of Audacity. Is this th...

Re: Need Some Really Good Headphones

1) it depends on what you need. For line level in/out the EDIROL UA-1EX is highly recommended - great sound quality and well featured (24/96, optical in, high quality A/D D/A converters, input level adjustment, headphone level adjustment). If you need a microphone pre-amp, there are suitable models ...

Re: Split Stereo Track Into 2 Mono Tracks

:D That's why I said " most situations". That's the time when an extra couple of mouse clicks are needed (unless you hack the code as you have done). As a matter of interest, what exactly did you change? (I'm not a programmer, but I've built Audacity from source a couple of times so I migh...

Re: big lo-fi audio files for wide audience: what codec?

. I'm actually working with the files in mono, but was thinking I should convert back to stereo because Koz told me last year that some software chokes on mono files. That is not usually an issue with mp3 players. Koz was probably talking about CD burning software, some of which require files to be...

Re: Split Stereo Track Into 2 Mono Tracks

In most situations you can just select "Stereo Tracks to mono" from the Tracks menu.
