Re: Error with Repeat Effect

It's usually called a "glitch". When you select the audio that you want to repeat, zoom in very close on the left and right ends of selection. Ideally you want to make a selection that starts and ends with the volume level at zero. If there is a sudden jump in the waveform when the first s...

Re: Need Some Really Good Headphones

Since I'm in Europe, I've not tried buying anything from Thomann as a US resident. The shipping rate is 30 Euro for the entire order (up to 31 kilo) - this is a lot higher than shipping to the UK so it will be a consideration when deciding whether to buy from them or not. If you are buying enough st...

Re: Changing output from 128 kbps to 192

In Audacity 1.2 the Export format is in the Audacity Preferences (Edit menu > Preferences). Audacity 1.3 is now widely recommended as it is much more up to date and superior in many ways to the old 1.2 version. However, if you are installing onto a Vista machine, there are a few quirks with Vista th...

Re: recording for voicemail

"Pulse Coded Modulation", but you don't need to know that. Just export it as a (Microsoft) WAV file. With Audacity 1.3 you can export as u-law. I'm not sure if it is exactly the right format, but u-law is listed in the "Other Uncompressed Formats" as an option for (Microsoft) WAV.

Re: convert file to audacity

I use SUPER from e-rightsoft. Downloading it is a bit of a link jungle, but it's free and it works great. If your computer is not very high spec, then SUPER may complain about that, but that's because SUPER also does video file conversion which requires a higher spec. For audio file conversion it wo...

Re: clipping

0.5 on the vertical scale represents -6dB, so for live recording that is a very acceptable level. If it sounds noticeably quiet, you may need to adjust the controls in the "Windows Mixer" (look for a loudspeaker icon near the computer clock and right click on it - some sound cards use a cu...

Re: Split Stereo Track Into 2 Mono Tracks

You'll be pleased to know that the patch has been added to cvs so it is now available when you build the 1.3.8alpha version. (Audacity 1.3.8 has a couple of other tasty new features also).

Re: Overcoming the latency problem

I use a Behringer UCA 202 which does a nice job at a rock bottom price.
Waxcylinder (a regular forum contributor) uses an Edirol UA-1EX which is a bit more money, but higher spec and a couple of extra features.

Re: Split Stereo Track Into 2 Mono Tracks

Made a slight change so that the undo history works correctly. The patch file is attached. This has been tested on Audacity 1.3.8 alpha but I think it will work on 1.3.7 (release) as well. (I'm testing that now) For any other users that may want to try this patch: To use the patch file, unzip it int...
