Re: Skipping during playback and record

Shutting down pulseaudio may be worth trying - it seems to make quite a bit of difference on my machine. Regards upgrading, the best version so far on my Ubuntu box is Audacity 1.3.8 alpha  How do you feel about building from the cvs source? I'm no expert, but once you get all of the dependen...

Re: Skipping during playback and record

Some things to check: Before changing any of these settings, write down on paper the current settings - getting these settings right on Linux can be a pain in the A. "Edit menu > Preferences Quality" Default Sample Rate: either 44100 or 48000 do not go higher than 48000 Default Sample Form...

Re: "Equalizing" Audio Tracks

Not 100% certain about Audacity 1.2 but think it is the same in this respect as Audacity 1.3 and will apply the setting to the exported audio. It will also be applied if you do a "Quick Mix" to the track. Same for the "pan" slider.

How to identify media file types.

A common issue with Audacity is the chipmunk effect when trying to import an unsupported file type. Although Audacity 1.3 now supports many more file types, thanks to ffmpeg, it is still easy to get caught out. Just because a file has been named " filename.mp3 " does not mean that it reall...

Use "SUPER" by erightsoft (it's a bit of a link jungle to download, but it is free and worth the effort).

Re: Adding tracks to a recording

How can I punch in and fix the track I am working on without creating a new track? You don't need to. Just record it as a new track. This allows you to adjust the exact position of your new part and the volume level of it if necessary so that you can achieve a much smoother transition than if you a...

Re: Single Channel Recordings

You mean that you want to split a stereo track so that the left channel becomes one mono track, and the right channel becomes a second, independent, mono track? In Audacity 1.3 Click on the track name and select "split stereo track" from the drop down menu. Then click on the track name of ...

I've come across lots of people that do - and they all wonder why their recordings sound rubbish :D

I'm sure there must be some situation where AGC is desirable, but I'm yet to find it.
