Re: How to identify media file types.

can't I force Windows to show me the real music filename--with extension--instead of hiding it from me? As WC has said, (and as I thought you were aware, but perhaps you were being rhetorical or something) you can easily set up Windows to show the file extension. However, the file extension is by n...

Re: no signal when recording original music

The first track is about 1/2 second earlier than the first. Apart from that sentence not making sense, 1/2 second sounds like more than a latency problem. My suspician is that you have switched on "software playthrough" in Audacity's preferences (Audio I/O tab). "Software playthrough...

Haven't I answered that already? If not, could you try to describe the problem again as I obviously don't understand what you are asking.

Re: Balancing the channels

I encountered some problems but i managed to solve them myself. That's what we like to hear :D Even with the gain sliders i can't get it any higher than -24dB. That seems a bit low. Not sure if you've looked at this yet, or not.... Near the computer clock you should be able to find a loudspeaker ic...

Re: Need help recording with Waves GTR

I came across a post on another forum in which someone claims to have recorded Waves Guitar solo with Audacity. If that is true, then you should be able to record it by setting up Audacity to record from "stereo mix" (assuming that your sound card supports recording from stereo mix. See he...

Re: File|Close shuts down software instead of project

Clearing the last open window to a new one will empty the Audacity temporary folder, Thanks for the correction Gale. Care still needs to be taken changing the "Closing last window quits Audacity" option - as long as any projects are open, the temporary files from all projects are still pr...

Re: Stereo tracks not stereo

I too have a problem recording in true stereo. When listening to the vinyl I noticed the recording moved a voice from left to right and back. The voice did not move when playing my recorded Audacity stereo track. I followed Allen's inversion test and I do get dead silence, as long as gain and balan...

Re: Sub-optimal recording in Audacity

A nice detailed write-up. I'm just on my way out, so I'll have to be brief: From a quick read through the thing I notice: In Audacity - "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O", set the recording and playback devices to USB (the UCA 202) - I'm not sure exactly what it is listed as in Windows ...
