Re: Distortion Guitar Recording

When I record distorted guitar with a microphone the sound is clear for a couple seconds, then sort of fades, becoming a quieter sound with a garbled effect on it. See here: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=8592&p=34845 I cant record sounds coming from my own computer This...

Re: How to sample, if you must...

The Shanon-Nyquist sampling theorem says, that in order to get information about frequency f, you must use sampling rate at least 2f. So for a 20kHz sine wave that gives us 2 samples per cycle - not a particularly good likeness, and since attempting to sample frequencies above 22050 Hz will produce...

Re: Question About Behringer USB Podcast Kit

When I am in Audacity it does not show my recording source, any ideas why? I'm not sure where are you looking - but the question below may answer this question. when I goto my control panel to set the Recording Source it will show the Behringer USB and the volume and advanced buttons are grayed out...

Re: Exported MP3 not recognised by Windows Media Player/Vist

Are you using the correct version of Lame? It needs to be the version from the main Audacity web site.
128kbps CBR is about the most standard form of MP3.

Also, WMP may be choking on the ID3v2 tags, so for compatibility with WMP, Export with empty metatags and use WMP to add the tags.

Re: making music with audactiy

One of the shortcomings of Audacity is that you can not set the time line to bars and beats (which is an extremely useful feature for what you are wanting to do as it enabled you to easily make regular rhythms that keep "in time"). However Audacity can still be useful, either using it on i...

Re: Help! Sound quality issues

Yesterday I edited my file, I exported to Mp3 within audacity and all was well. I listened to it several times over and the sound quality was great. Today, I open the file again and the sounds is awful. Yes I know that well - but more commonly when mixing tracks. Working intensively on the same thi...

Re: Exported MP3 not recognised by Windows Media Player/Vist

Best suggestion that I can think of - don't use Windows Media Player. There are lots of better options freely available - VLC, Foobar 2000, Media Monkey, WinAmp, MPlayer .... (and for Linux only, the excellent Amarok and Rhythmbox).
But ignore me, I think RealPlayer is rubbish as well ;)

Re: Crash - No Temporary Files

Welp, Audacity just got put in the trash bin for good. I'm not going to risk my system to record audio, I'm sure there's something else out there. You don't need to use Audacity to crash your computer, there's lots of other ways to do it. The problem is simply that you started filling the bath, the...
