Re: Standard basic mastering procedures, tips?
You could not do any meaningful "Mastering" on a dozen tracks in 20 minutes - it would take more than 20 minutes just to listen to them, so about all you could do is to Normalize them (if the recording level is too low). 20 minutes on one track.... Top and tail (clean up ends of track) Eq,...

Re: Help with LAME MP3 Encoder Install
It's easy to get the wrong version of lame (I did so myself today  ) Full instructions are here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Lame_Installation Take care to download the correct version and take care with where you install it (it may be a good idea to get rid of some of the non...

Re: Mono
Spit the stereo track into two single channel tracks (Click on the track name then select "Split Stereo Track" from the drop down menu). Fade out the bad bit on the appropriate track. Duplicate that section from the good track and apply fade-in / fade-out to the ends of the duplicate secti...

Re: Stereo Exporting = Underwater Sound?
If you export as a WAV file, it should sound identical to how it sounds in Audacity. If you export in a lossy compressed format such as MP3, there will always be some loss of sound quality, and if you have similar signals but with phase differences between the left and right channels, this could res...

Re: MIDI real time input?
Audacity is an audio program and does not support midi. Midi import is only for a visual representation of midi data (useful for some users that want to be able to visually allign audio samples against a midi track). If you use Linux, try "Muse" or "Rosegarden" for midi support.

Re: metadata editor window hides, hanging the program
I have reinstalled Audacity 1.3.7 twice in order to try to remove this problem Reinstalling rarely makes any difference to any issues, since any issues that are to do with user preferences are stored in a file called "audacity.cfg" (a hidden file). Rather than uninstalling/re-installing, ...

Re: Recorded Sound is Semitone Higher/Lower
As koz says, the most likely cause is a ratty sound card that is playing back audio at a slightly different speed to what it is recording at. You may find that it behaves better (or worse) if you change the default sample frequency (Edit menu > Preferences >Audio I/O). Try both 44100 Hz and 48000Hz ...

Re: High Noise Spectrum above 13kHz
Set the sample depth to 32 bit.
(Edit menu > Preferences > Quality tab).
Audacity processes audio at 32 bit, so if your tracks are at a lower bit depth, dither noise will be produced.

Re: Duration of a selection?
I'm trying to easily extract the duration (length in seconds) of a selection (or the span of a labeled region). Does Audacity (1.3.7 or earlier) provide a readout or tool that would report the interval? Yes - the selection bar at the bottom of the main window shows the start time and either the len...
