Re: Audacity does not "hear" the microphone
I presume that you have ALSA fully installed and working. Do you have the options in "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O > Recording and Playback devices" for "ALSA default"? If not, try shutting down "Pulseaudio" (if running) and restart Audacity. If "ALSA defaul...

Re: Audacity won't record on Vista
Please don't double post - it makes following conversations very confusing, especially since we now do not know if you are using Audacity 1.2 or Audacity 1.3.

The trouble with posting on the "Recording Techniques" board, is that no-one has any idea of whether you are on Linux, Mac, XP, Vista, or other, and no idea which version of Audacity you are using.

Re: Erasing backing vocals
This is quite a similar task to "removing background music". The short answer is that unless you have the original multi-track recordings, then it can't be done. The longer answer is that you may be able to remove backing vocals if they are panned dead centre and the rest of the music is n...

Re: Audacity bug importing MP3 with "Extended Tags" (ID3v2)
Have the problem files come from one particular application? I've heard of people having problems with files created by Adobe Premiere Elements due to non-standard data that Premiere added to the files. I'm wondering if this is something similar. Of course a simple workaround would be to decompress ...

Re: Intrumental Remover Code
That must be one of the worst tutorials that I've ever seen. I suspect that the author had no idea what he/she was doing and was blindly copying a technique that someone showed them without understanding it. The crucial part of obtaining a suitable noise profile was completely absent. If I could wri...

Re: Recording overlaying
I believe it might not have anything to do with a setting on Audicity but on my computer. Congratulations, you got it in one :D Look down in the bottom right hand corner of the desktop (near the clock) for a loudspeaker icon. Double click on it to open the sound card mixer/control panel. Now look f...
