Re: Can't record -- microphone not recognized
It seems strange that the input channel does not list any supported sample rates. On both Linux and Win XP I am used to seeing supported sample rates listed for both Playback and Recording devices. [Note at the bottom it says "Unable to open Portmixer." Is that significant?] No that should...

Re: A Good Question, I Think
I recorded one track with it and the quality and clairity of the track sounds better to me than what I get out of a program I paid for. Perhaps the commercial program is doing some "enhancement" of the audio while you record. Audacity does not do that - when recording it "only" ...

Re: Confused about input levels
According to the Meter Toolbar documentation: "If the level of the input (recording) source is too high, you can try to lower the input level using the Mixer Toolbar" That's for when using conventional internal sound cards. With USB devices the important level is the level of the signal b...

Re: Crash while recording, no mouse activity
How about if you run the (laptop?) computer from the mains power supply and set "power saving" to "Presentation mode"?

Re: Problem with recording
I've no idea if this is relevant, but on Ubuntu I compiled using a later version of portaudio (v1.9) and nyquist enabled and "make" worked fine.

Re: Shrinking mp3 files
I'm down to 2.88meg at 32kbps but would rather not go any lower with the bit rate. Assuming that you are working from the original WAV file, you can turn it into mono then compress it to 24kbps and still get sound quality equivalent to (or better than) 32kbps on a stereo file. The mono file should ...

Re: Apply De-emphasis?
Glad you like it
but I didn't have to put in all the 0's manually, I got Audacity to do that for me. It was mostly a cut and paste job so it only took about 10 minutes whilst drinking an excellent cup of tea... which reminds me, time to put the kettle on.

Re: Recording overlaying
It opened up a new set of windows and "Stereo Mix" was checked in the lower "select" box, I tried to uncheck it and select something else but it wouldn't allow me too. That could be a real problem. To avoid the "overlaying" you must de-select Stereo Mix. How about if y...
