I am using opensuse 11.0 Audacity 1.37 and Lame 3.98.2 is what is shown on the Import/Export window in preferences. Are the preferences windows different say for Windows version and Linux versions? That feature may only be available in Audacity 1.3 and I've not used 1.2 for ages.

You probably have the wrong version of Lame.

Note that you have posted in the 1.3.x section of the forum, but you say you have version 1.2
