Re: Distortion Analyzer
I've tested the plug-in by recording "Stereo Mix" (in effect, testing the sound card) and it gives a reading of around 0.06% Testing it by playing the sound through PC speakers and recording with a cheap PC microphone gives a reading of around 6% The results vary depending on the test freq...

Re: Distortion Analyzer
The nulling business was complicated because the instrument was working with a physical dual "T" filter, a very high Q notch filter with several branches and variables to take out the original tone and nothing else. If the test signal is always a sine wave, then that simplifies matters co...

Re: Audacity Files problem.
Have a go with Audacity 1.3.7 - many users find it more stable than 1.2.6, and it is certainly better at recovery if anything does go wrong.

Re: Re-recording/encoding MP3
Just so I am sure about this, if you rip a cd track using Windows Media Player as a wav file is this 32 bit or 16bit? CDs are 16bit, so when you rip them you will get a 16 bit file. Audacity can "up-sample" the 16 bit file to 32 bit (up-sampling is lossless). The (small) gains that you ma...

I'm not sure if Chris's dynamic compressor works with Audacity 1.2 - you may need to upgrade to Audacity 1.3 Another good (but different) compressor is the "SC4 compressor" - for maximising sounds, the SC4 is probably better than Chris's (Chris's compressor excels at evening out dynamics a...

Try updating to Audacity 1.3 - this resolves most of the Vista issues.
