Re: Question

I used Audacity 1.3 but the procedure in Audacity 1.2 would be more or less the same. 1. Download mp3 2. Import into Audacity 3. Duplicate (Ctl+D) the instrumental parts (two different sections) 4. Copy the duplicate sections so that I have enough times through of each section for the complete song ...

Re: WAV files exported from Audacity are not bit-identical

The version is 1.3.7 Oh! Just wondering why you posted in the Audacity 1.2 part of the forum. Comparing: "C:FLACYazoo-(1990)-Situation (Remix)\01 - Situation (1982 US Remix By Francois Kevorkian) FILE SAVED BY AUD.wav" "C:FLACYazoo-(1990)-Situation (Remix)\01 - Situation (1982 US Rem...

Re: Charlie Brown Voices

There is quite a lot of background noise - hiss and people talking in the background - this combination makes it rather difficult to do much about the noise, but hopefully that will not be too much of a problem. The main issue is that the frequency bandwidth is rather limited with very little above ...

Re: Question

He didn't remove the vocals from the original song. He rewrote the song by only using the non-vocal parts, Cutting, Copying and Pasting as needed Exactly right. It's intensely labor intensive compared to just pressing the "go" button on a filter. In this case it was not particularly labou...

Re: WAV files exported from Audacity are not bit-identical

Problem remais with FLAC -> FLAC as well. No I'm not getting that, but I'm using Audacity 1.3.8 alpha. If I switch off dithering, I get bit perfect import/export of 16 bit WAV files and Flac files (16 bit and 24bit). Perhaps the fault that you are seeing now with flac is due to another issue. Which...

Re: Question

I just did a cut and paste job on it (with a bit of time stretch and a bit of cross-fading).

The mono file should automatically play through both speakers.

Re: MP3 compression??

Audacity works with uncompressed audio data (like WAV files) which are BIG.
Lame allows Audacity to compress the data so that the file is much smaller, but with some loss of sound quality. The more you shrink the file size, the lower the sound quality goes.

Re: MP3 Export Crash

You can improve the quality of an MP3 at the expense of increased file size by choosing a less compressed format. I think the default is "128kbps CBR". If you change the setting (Options button in the Export dialogue) to "Preset > Standard" you will get much improved sound qualit...

Re: volume boosted after exporting WAV?

When you have several tracks playing at the same time and you Export the "mix", all of the tracks get added together (the mix). This means that the Exported track will be the sum of all of the tracks that are playing, and thus will be higher amplitude than the individual tracks. To prevent...

Re: MP3 compression??

Yes it's possible, and not too difficult. For Exporting in MP3 format from Audacity you need to install the LAME encoder. It is important that you use the correct version of Lame, especially with Audacity 1.3 Full details here: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Lame_Installation Also, see...
