Re: closing file closes Audacity window?
It is generally a good idea to start new projects with a fresh start of Audacity as that ensures that everything is clear and reset. However, you can over-ride this default behaviour by going to "Edit menu > Preferences > Interface tab" and deselecting the option "Quit Audacity upon c...

Re: Big Question
I'm guessing that it is a "Midi" keyboard.
Midi keyboards produce "midi control data", they do not produce "sound".
Audacity is an "audio" editing program - it works with "sound", not with midi data.

Re: Best voice sound settings
It's not uncommon for these type of services to reduce the sound quality in order to reduce their band width. Audacity doesn’t , go any lower than 16 bit depth Audacity can be persuaded to Export 8 bit audio if you really try, but internally it works at 32 bit, and most of the Export formats are 16 ...

s this sufficient to tell you what you need to know That is sufficient to say that Audacity is running nicely on your computer. I hope you were paying attention to what you did, because I'm going to ask a few questions about it (don't worry, it's not a test :) If there are any questions that you do...

Re: Unable to compile Audacity 1.3.7 source code within Ubun
You need to have libwxbase2.8-0 libwxgtk2.8-0 wx2.8-headers libwxbase2.8-dev The easiest way I found to install them was to add the wxWidgets repository to the sources list, then use synaptic (or apt) See here for details: http://wiki.wxpython.org/InstallingOnUbuntuOrDebian Sorting out the dependenc...

Re: Wave out recording sounding bad
I am trying to record an mp3 playing in Winamp using "Wave Out Mix" in Audacity, WinAmp is able to output directly to disk. This is by far the best way to "record" from WinAmp. You need to go into the WinAmp plug-in configuration and set the output to "Diskwriter" (may...

Re: Disc won't play on CD player
Is it reasonable that disks written at higher speed are less likely to be read in an audio CD player than disks written at slower speed? If so would I likely get better performance in my player if I throttle back the write rate in my burning software?? Possibly. Throttling back is often recommended...

Re: Exporting clips longer than 2 hours?
the clips are about 100mb each. They will be MUCH bigger than that when you import them into Audacity. Audacity works with uncompressed audio, and by default uses 32bit data, which makes a 2 hour audio track around 2.5GB. When you edit a file, Audacity makes a copy of the data so that the action ca...

Re: Need help with Behringer UCA200 and Audacity
Windows should recognise the UCA device when it is plugged into a USB socket - it should show up in the "Safely disconnect hardware" dialogue.

Re: sound quality
Play the keyboard in a lower key, then use "Change Speed" instead of "Change Tempo".
