Re: I can't record from audio tape
I hooked the input cables to the earphone jack of my tape player and the other end to the blue audio in jack on the back of my computer. Not an ideal set up. Much better to use a tape player with a "line out" rather than a "headphone out". If you only have the option of headphon...

Re: Best Noise Removal Settings?
I read somewhere else that it's good to amplify the noise profile before sampling it, and that seems to be the case. But how much amplification? That should not really be necessary, but I discovered that it sometimes provides (subjectively) better results. Generally between nothing and +6dB. Noise ...

Yep, you've downloaded the wrong program.
Sourceforge who provide the hosting for Audacity are supported by adverts. You have inadvertently downloaded one of the advertised products instead of Audacity.
See the link in waxcylinders post.

Re: can u use audicity for this?
There's various methods that you could use. The way I would do it is to copy the "Vob" files from the DVD, then use "SUPER" from erightsoft to convert them to WAV.

Re: Software playthrough unchecked causes slow playback
This is not, as far as I know, a known issue. I suspect that somewhere along the line the Presonus and the XFi are not playing nicely together - possibly not agreeing on what the sample rate is. Can you try it, first using the X-Fi for recording and playback, then with the Presonus for recording and...

Re: Snap-To Question
The three boxes of numbers after the "Snap To" tick box show the start, length or end, and play positions. Each has a little triangle next to it. If you click on the triangle you get a drop down list that allows you to select the time format. "Snap To" will snap to the smallest u...

Re: export sample rate setting
K3B will resample IF you are making an AUDIO CD. It will not resample (will write it unchanged) if you make a DATA CD.
An audio CD will play on stand-alone CD players.
A data CD will play on your computer and may play on some stand-alone CD players but on most CD players it will not play.

Re: Detecting silence in one track but not another?
Have a go with this. diffsilencefinder.ny.zip Download the attachment and unzip it into the Audacity plug-ins folder. When you next start Audacity you will find an item in the Analyze menu called "Diff Silence Finder..." It is based on the "Silence Finder" tool by Alex S. Brown b...
