Re: hiss upon playback
When you have recorded into Audacity, do you get a good strong signal or do you have to amplify it a lot? If the signal into Audacity is low, then you will need to turn up the gain on the pre-amp.

Re: ubuntu 9.04 audacity 1.3.7 recording just stops
Ubuntu 9.04 uses Pulse audio by default, and this can be a pain for setting up recording. After upgrading from Ubuntu 8.10 to 9.04 it took me a couple of hours to figure out how to configure the sound system so that I could record with Audacity - now that I have it set up I don't really want to mess...

Re: suttering audio track
The chances are that the project is broken beyond repair. Audacity projects are made up of 2 parts - there is the project file (filename.aup) and then there is the data that the project uses. The project file contains no audio data, just pointers to where the data exists, which is usually in the dat...

You need to set your recording input to "Line in" or "Mic in" (whichever you are using) and not "Stereo Mix". See here for more information: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_OS Pay particular attention to paragraphs 3.4 and 3.5 Also, most Vista...

Re: Realtime plug ins in playback
This is one of the most requested features. There may be some underlying technical reasons, but more than that there is a basic difference in concept. Audacity is essentially an audio editor and Ardour is not. In Audacity, if you cut part of a track, then Audacity does exactly that, it removes the c...

Re: Click Removal torture test
One note, for anybody that wants to run ClickRepair on Linux. You have to use Sun's JVM. I was using the one that came with the distro (OpenSuSE 11.1), and while it still worked, most of the menus and windows were all screwy. Once I installed Sun's Java 1_6_0, it works a lot better. Another option ...

Re: Spectral editing
Audio files typically have less than 100k frequencies How do you make that out? How many colours in a rainbow? Can you edit specific groups of frequencies like i suggested? You can use high-pass filters to isolate high frequencies, and low-pass filters to isolate low frequencies. The number of freq...

More details would be welcome. If it happens to one user, there's a good chance it will happen to someone else.Tallfellow wrote:if anybody has a similar failure I could get the details and post a more comprehensive fix for guidance.

There's an infinite number of frequencies.neotechni wrote:how would I get windows to give me the amplitude of every individual frequency from an audio file?
The Spectrum Analysis (Analyze menu) will give you a representation of several thousand of them.
