Audacity records the digital data that is sent to it from the sound card. If the sound card is over-emphasising the high frequencies, then that is what Audacity will record. A high quality sound card should produce accurate recordings.

I've noticed similar issues on a Windows machine - the "zoom to all" gets it going again for me. The bug seems to be fixed in Audacity 1.3.8 (which can be obtained from cvs).
