If we can start with that - also include what your sound card is, and any s...

Re: Can't Open Project
The Recovery process worked perfectly Hooray and congratulations. Be warned however, it does not always work, so keep backups as you go - particularly any important once in a lifetime recordings. Re: Multi Tracks
You are using the USB light snake to record. What are you using for playback? Do you have the playback device correctly selected in Audacity Preferences (Audio I/O tab).

Re: Can't access effects - all grey - even with audio select
Effects (and many other menu items) are only available when you are in "Stop" mode. "Pause" is not the same as "Stop". You cannot apply effects (they are greyed out) while Audacity is playing, recording or paused.

Re: Recording
Both playback and recording devices have many options. Which one i must chose? It depends on what sound card you have and on how your sound system is set up. On Linux this is often the most painful bit of recording. If you have "ALSA (default)" as an option, try that. Where is this mixer?...

Re: recording without bg music
Read this page and make sure that you are not recording using "stereo mix". You need to have your microphone selected as the recording source and not stereo mix. http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php? ... trol_Panel
