so it was sitting there recording half an hour of nothing - which I expect occupies no less temporary disk space than half an hour of music. I can not find any sign of the .cfg file in these recent downloads. The .cfg file is not included in the download, it is created when you run Audacity for the first time. The envelope tool is the user friendly tool. Yes it is, but I don't find it very user friendly either.
