Re: MP3 file size
I used Audacity to 1.2.6 to edit out about 10 minutes. Then I NORMALIZED it. Then I exported it to MP3 (using default settings, 128 bit rate). The new MP3 file is now 72.4MB. Why did the size of the file jump? How can I avoid this? My bet is that the original file was mono, but it imported into Aud...

Re: Vertical scroll feature request
Specifically, I need to sync up two or more recordings of the same audio scene on two mics, and I want to determine the exact offset between the channels by zooming in to the same event on each channel, lining up the recordings, and noting the precise start and end time of the visible region on eac...

Re: Will Not Open Project File
<tag name="ARTIST" value="Casablanca"/> Last 3 characters after "Casablanca are the problem. I don't know what it will look like on your computer, but there are 3 control characters after the final "a". Change it to <tag name="ARTIST" value="Casabla...

Re: Add beep every 10 seconds
No you can't, but once you have created your beep track you can import a music track, roughly trim the beep track, then Export (Exporting will mix the music track and the beep track together). You can then press Ctrl+Z a couple of times (Ubndo) then import your next music track and reuse the same be...

Re: Add beep every 10 seconds
These instructions use Audacity 1.3.7 If you find that any of the steps are not possible in 1.2, please upgrade. 1) Generate a tone and trim it to the length that you require. 2) Create a new track and generate 10 seconds of silence. 3) Select both tracks and do a "Quick Mix" (Mix and Rend...

Re: Will Not Open Project File
Is there anyway to recover the project file? You may be lucky. First, read this so that you understand what is going on: http://audacityteam.org/wiki/index.php?title=File_Management_Tips Make a backup copy the Audacity Project file (filename.aup) and the data folder (filename_data) Now open the ori...

Re: high frequencies
Audacity does not support ASIO or MIDI and has very limited support for VST (no support for VSTi). FL is know to cause compatibility issues if you have the VST bridge installed in Audacity (so don't install the VST bridge). FL uses ASIO drivers by default which are not supported by Audacity. Audacit...

Re: VSTs in Audacity
VST support in Linux is quite limited. The best VST support that you are going to get in Linux is either using Ardour, or running Reaper in WINE. For Linux there are other plug-in architectures supported such as LADSPA, Nyquist and LV2. For awesome plug-in flexibility look at using Ardour with Jack ...

Re: audacity "bogs down"
My project is now about an hour long, with about 15 songs, 5 voiceovers, and 4 or 5 little tags. It can often help to split big projects into multiple smaller ones. This takes a lot of strain off the computer. Even though modern computers are much more powerful than old ones, some things have not i...

Re: Time-wasting buggy behaviour
I can't be sure if this is your problem, but there have been some "focus" related bugs in Audacity which have been fixed in Audacity 1.3.8 which is due for release later this month.
