You will need to give more detail about your set-up and the problem guitarman.

The easiest way is probably with "Add/Remove". I'm not sure where that is on Hardy, but in Jaunty it is at the bottom of the "Applications" menu.

I think I would be flogging a dead horse to try and get it to work in Linux as well.

How are you trying to install it? From a deb file?
Have you tried installing from Synaptic?
Have you ever tried installing from the source code?

Audacity 1.3 may help (worth trying). Some multi-channel devices only work in Audacity with 1, 2 or ALL channels set to record (which often means a lot of blanc tracks to delete.
