why cant it just record whats going through the soundcard. Because your sound system is configured to record from the microphone. To record sounds that are playing on your computer you must configure Vista to record from "Stereo Mix". Unfortunately not all sound cards are able to do this ...

Have a look in "Edit Menu > Preferences > Audio I/O" and see what is selected as the recording/playback devices. It should either show that the Realtek sound card is selected, or the Microsoft Sound Mapper. If it is the Sound Mapper, then you should also check in the Windows Control Panel,...

Adobe Audition has a nice feature in their Noise reduction effect - after grabbing the noise profile the window stays open and you can click on a button to "Select all of track". This allows both stages of Noise Reduction to be performed without having to close/reopen the effect. Audacity ...
