Do you mean "burn" as in "burn to a CD"?
For making audio CDs you must use 16 bit. Audio CDs only use 16 bit audio at 44.1 kHz.

Are you able to open the project? I get the impression that it opens but will not play.
Can you open the project and save it with a different name?

I'm guessing that there are no other signs of instability on your machine other than Audacity? I don't know what the cause is, but we've seen similar issues with Audacity 1.2 on XP with SP3, so my guess is that there is something in SP3 that fights with something in Audacity 1.2.
