Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O and select "software playthough"
Also check that the Playback device (on the same tab in Preferences) you have your sound card selected and not the Microsoft Sound Mapper or the USB device.

It sounds like you have created a "feedback loop". This is when the output from the sound card (possibly through the speakers) is going back in to the sound card (possibly through the microphone), getting amplified and coming back out again, round and round getting louder in a fraction of ...

File name is "nexttoyouXX". XX being a number(I increase the number everytime I save. I think I'm on 14) I presume that is "nexttoyou14" without the quotes. Numbering each Save is a very good idea - it eats up a lot of disk space but provides a back trace of "restore points...

If you select one track, then use "Mix and Render" it will produce a rendered version of that track in which envelopes and pan positions are applied and gaps between audio clips are rendered as silence. If you do this for each track, then the tracks can be Imported in to another project an...

went to save again and got the same "Could not save project. Perhaps D:audacityfilename is not writable or the disk is full". Anyone have an idea what thats all about? I have 100s of Gigs of space and it seems hap hazzard as to when this comes up. Is D: an internal or external hard drive?...

If you open the Windows Mixer/ Sound card Control Panel, I suspect that you will find that you have the recording source set for recording "Mix"/"Stereo Mix". This will record all sounds that are playing through your computer, so your individual tracks are not really individual, ...
