Re: Stereo-Mono

regarding the 1.3 version you recommend, is that the ANSI or the Unicode version from the page you recommended? As it says on the page "ANSI builds are suitable for Windows 98 or later (but do not give any Unicode support); Unicode builds require Windows 2000 or later." For XP or Vista go...

Re: multi-track (simultaneous) recording input levels

Congratulations on getting that working :)
In answer to your question, unfortunately no. The mix that you record is entirely controlled by the hardware and drivers.

Re: Help With Kam USBH100!!!!!!

The USB device must be connected to the computer and recognised by the operating system before you open Audacity. If you are using Vista you need to check in the Windows Control Panel that it is available as a recording device (see here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=Windows_Vista_OS#...

Re: Noise shaping

To be honest, the differences are very subtle. The main difference is that dither is better than no dither. To hear just how subtle the effects are, try amplifying the sample that I posted by -50dB to take it back down to normal level. The example that I gave does not paint the whole picture, but I ...

Re: Recording with multiple USB mics

Audacity can only record from one device at a time. It is possible on Linux to create a virtual driver that combines the inputs of multiple devices into one multi-channel device, but that would be fairly advanced Linux users. No one has ever bothered to write any software for Linux that will do this...

Re: How to edit the level to not exceed a maximum limit?

This is a Nyquist effect. The file is actually just a plain text file (you can open it in a text editor and see the code). When placed in the Audacity plug-ins folder, Audacity is able to read the contents and run the script to produce the effect, but to do this it needs to recognise it as a Nyquist...

Re: Distortion level indicators - absent...

The compressor effect in Audacity is not a "real time" effect - none of the effects in Audacity are "real time" effects. Audacity effects are applied to the selected tracks after they have been recorded. Audacity does not process the audio while you are recording, all processing ...

Noise shaping

A simple demonstration of what noise shaping sounds like and why you should use it. Audacity will by default apply "dither" whenever you reduce the bit depth of some audio. The reason for this is that when you reduce the bit depth, the number of available amplitude values that a sample can...

Re: Help with Recovery II

Unfortunately recovering broken projects is rather hit-and-miss. How to approach the task is documented here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=CrashRecovery Fortunately Audacity 1.3 is much less likely to trash your project than older versions, so I would recommend upgrading to a more re...
