Re: Epic time shift fail

I think that the shifting that you see is the normal "latency correction" as described in the link that you posted. Latency correction moves the entire track by the same amount, so it will not help resolve an issue where the tracks are drifting out of sync. It may be worth seeing if there ...

Re: Stereo-Mono

Hi ignatz, I have moved your post to its own thread so as to avoid confusion. At times, I will use tracks/stereo to mono to save disk space and in the possibly mistaken belief that it may help to reduce groove noise and distortion. I do this because long-term experience with cassette tape recording ...

@ ignatz, I have moved your post here to avoid confusion: http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=12052 Yes, I've been saving an MP3 copy, with the same intent Better to Export backups as WAV files. Converting to MP3 always reduces the sound quality to some extent. I probably should b...

Re: Distortion level indicators - absent...

Glad you stepped in Koz, I was about to send you a PM asking if you would :) It sounds to me like there is something in the signal chain before Audacity that is limiting the signal level. On Windows machines it is not uncommon for the sound card to overload if the signal level is too high, AND the r...

Re: PCM Header problems

"Prince of Persia" - I remember that game - getting stuck behind the gate and waiting for the mouse to let you out :D The graphics were really impressive in its day :D Just thinking, if you need a really old PCM header, I wonder if you could use a really old audio editor to import your &qu...

Re: Stereo-Mono

A really good tip if you are recording anything important - as soon as you have finished recording a track, if it is a good recording, Export it as a WAV file.
WAV files make great backups - you can burn them to CD or dump them on a USB memory stick and you've got a nice safe backup.

Re: Epic time shift fail

So, its obviously been stretched automatically... Yes, but not by Audacity. It has been "stretched" by your audio hardware. The problem is that each sample that is played or recorded is timed by the audio hardware. When sampling at 44.1kHz, the sound card will send samples to Audacity 441...

Re: How to edit the level to not exceed a maximum limit?

Does your computer show the file extension of all files? If not, can you set it to do so (I don't use Macs, so I've no idea how to do that. - Google it if you need to). I'm pretty sure the download is OK - I downloaded it myself a couple of days ago and it was fine, and I've just checked again now a...
