Re: recording second track

Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O or Edit menu > Preferences > Recording Select "play other tracks while recording new one". The exact location and wording vary depending on which version of Audacity you have. In future, post in the forum page that is appropriate for your version of Auda...

Re: Can't record sound playing on speakers

Basically, I'm trying to grab some audio that is playing on my Pinnacle movie editing software and use it as an intro to a podcast that I've already recorded Can you not "Export" the audio from the Pinnacle software and "Import" it into Audacity? If you can do that the sound qua...

Sorry, this is not clear. Do you have the MP3 and want to edit it, or is the MP3 on the Internet, or do you want to record "live" sounds with a microphone?

Re: Constant high-pitched humming, buzzing, whining

To hear the 20 Hz number you have to be a dog, and the 20,000 Hz number you have to be a very young woman from Nebraska. I don't think dogs can hear 20Hz, though Wales and Elephants can. Dogs, human children and bats can hear 20kHz. Other than that - as Koz says. Personally I think that it is prett...

Re: Link Excel to Audacity to control its tone generator?

Audacity does not do anything in real time. but I do not have the ability to write code. Want to learn? "Nyquist" is an easy scripting language built into Audacity. Install Audacity 1.3.8, and check that it is working. Create a track and select about 1 second of the (empty) track. Open the...

USB microphones have certain limitations, (such as you can not listen to what they are recording while they are recording, and you can only use one at a time), but otherwise they can produce very good results for the price. The Samson CO1U and CO3U are popular. There are many other similar mics with...

Re: How to merge 3 tracks?

Try upgrading to Audacity 1.3 (none of us use the old 1.2 version any more).

Use the "Generate menu" to create one track with a "Tone", one with a "Chirp" and one with "Noise", then press Play.

Re: Split Off Meters...*Really* Split

Like that? http://www.kozco.com/tech/audacity/illu ... nFront.jpg That's exactly what I want to do but can't. A minimise button would be one way to do it, then Spectrum Plot would become a separate icon in Task Switcher. I think that's what Mixer Bar did before we changed it, but that behaviour has...
