I was under the impression that the real-time option was only intended to be used with the real-time kernel (I could be wrong though).
Have you tried it without the real-time option?

Which version of Audacity are you using?

The first thing to check is leads and connections.
It is usually better to have all the equipment connected to the same power socket.
Sometimes moving the sound card to a different PCI socket can help.

I've submitted an update to ClickTrack that validates the optional input and produces meaningful error messages if invalid data is entered. Hopefully this will help to prevent this problem arising in the future.
