Re: LAME plugin is not working?

I locate and click on the file, and for a split second it seems to work but then it gives me an error. As Koz said, probably not the right Lame version. It will probably be easiest to just use Switch for now. The long awaited Audacity version 2 is due out very soon, so when it is released you can g...

Re: record shows on meter but records nothing

I suspect that it IS recording, but just very quietly.
What happens if you apply the Amplify effect?
1) select the track by double clicking on it
2) click on "Amplify" from the Effects menu
3) Click OK (with the default settings).

Re: voice or sound activated recording

Audacity 1.3.9
Transport > Sound Activation Level
Adjust the level high enough (low number) so that the background sound does not trigger recording when you press the record button, but not so high as to prevent recording VOX.

Re: recording with sony pcm d50, then direct to cd

This can be (possibly) verified experimentally. I did that before I posted ;) Was the dither added on export or import? Hard to tell, Not at all difficult. 1) Generate 10 seconds of silence and export as a 16 bit WAV file called "dither.wav" 2) Switch of dither in Preferences. 3) Export t...

Re: Cleaning up a Acapella track

That's strange noise - not one that I recognise - but as Koz said earlier, it's a performer (it's as much a part of the recording as the voice). I very much doubt that you will be able to make an appreciable reduction in the noise without seriously affecting the voice.

Re: What does "VST Effects now display GUI by default" mean?

I've not tried this yet (I'm on Linux and don't use VSTs on this) but I would assume that it means that VSTs display a graphic interface without the need for installing the VST bridge plug-in.
Hopefully someone else will be able to provide more information.

Re: recording with sony pcm d50, then direct to cd

Getting a bit carried away there, and almost forgot: It also means you can't use "Detach at Silences" to get your white space back after running a Nyquist effect. Not necessarily. a) the silences could be marked before passing the audio to Nyquist. In fact, before the data is read. The AUP...

Re: recording with sony pcm d50, then direct to cd

I think this may require some information from someone who understands the relevant bit of Audacity code to get a definitive answer on this, but my reasoning is as follows: dither is only ever applied if downsampling to a lower bit format Yes, that is my understanding. I've also understood on simila...

Re: Linking audio book files

If you are convinced that Banshee is the answer can you detail how I may achieve my aim and I will follow through on it I'm not "convinced", but I think it is likely and it costs nothing but a little time to try. I've found the best way to learn stuff on Linux is to jump in and try things...
