Can you Export as WAV?
If you can, do that. You can Import the WAV into a new project if necessary.
It would probably be a good idea to upgrade to Audacity 1.3.9 as this will probably be more reliable.

wondering if there's any way to set this up in audacity? Have you tried the AutoDuck effect in Audacity? You would need to set all of the time values very short. You use two tracks - select the upper track and apply the effect. The processed upper track will duck when the level on the track below g...
