Re: Nuking Defaults

Quite often I will use a "Portable Settings" folder so that I can run multiple versions of Audacity for testing. Initially I'll start with the default values for everything so that I can test a default install. If it looks good and I want to actually start using it, then I make the followi...

Re: recording a sibelius file on to Audacity

Using Sibelius Kontakt player's sound is a waste of time as it will not produce more than pianissimo volume on my woodwind tracks and won't play the percussion at all - I've no idea why! I've noticed that the Sibelius Kontakt player produces a very low volume level, but this can usually be (partial...

Re: Recording Guitar questions

I recommend using the "Duplicate and mix together" method of applying G-Verb, as described here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php?title=GVerb Not had time to listen to your latest clips, but generally with G-Verb, reduce the reverb time much lower than the default - around 1 to 2 sec...

Re: Sound activated recording

The problem may be simply that you have the threshold set too high. I know that you have already played with this, but sometimes a small adjustment can make quite a bit of difference, so it may be worth trying to tweak it a bit more. The threshold should be set just above the noise floor. This may b...

That'll be interesting. Do you have a digital camera or any other means of posting a picture of it?

Re: Dynamic Rumble Filter

Audacity already has a high pass filter, so there's really no need to install a VST effect.

Re: recording a sibelius file on to Audacity

The easiest way is to switch to Sibelius's internal synth (or Kontact player in previous versions) and export directly from Sibelius. If for some reason you can not do that, then the procedure is the same as for recording any other sounds from your computer. See here for details: http://wiki.audacit...

Re: Dead time added to song files.

Make sure that you are using "Export" and not "Export Selected".

For making an Audio CD you should Export as WAV and not MP3.

Re: filtering distortion

A good dynamic microphone would be a good choice, though many of the cheaper ones have poor high frequency response. Ribbon microphones and some condenser microphones are capable of the job but are expensive and delicate. Most stand-alone microphone pre-amps should be able to cope, but metering can ...
